My Yoga Tradition
I began my studies of yoga in the Hatha tradition as taught by Swami Satyananda from the Bihar School of Yoga. The practice includes chanting, pranayama (breathing techniques), surya namaskar (sun salutations), asanas (postures) and meditation and is a moving meditation rather than a form of exercise. I integrate teachings from the Patanjali's Yoga Sutras into my classes and live by the eightfold path of yoga (Ashtanga Yoga) as best as I can everyday.
Since then, I have completed an Advanced Yoga Teacher Training in Ashtanga Vinyasa where I delved deeply into the use of breath and chanting, yoga therapy and advanced asanas. In 2017, I obtained my certification as a Yoga Tune Up® teacher which increased my knowledge of anatomy and biomechanics exponentially and transformed my classes to be more focused on therapeutic and corrective movements and myofascial self-care.
A merging of traditional teachings and modern anatomy make my classes a meditative experience but also ones that will improve everyday functional movements and help manage pain and injuries. You will learn about your body and alignment (propioception) to make every yoga posture your own. It is important to understand why we move into each posture and how to strike a balance of strength and flexibility in your practice. Through self massage using massage balls or hands-on adjustments based on my training in thai massage, stress, stuck soft tissue and tight muscles will soften. Finally we slow down and rest the body and mind with a guided meditation or a yoga nidra (yogic sleep) session.
I teach group and private yoga classes and offer customized workshops and retreats.
